Coventry City defeated Derby County 5-3 on Saturday in an eight-goal thriller that featured a penalty kick from American forward Haji Wright, who opened his goalscoring account for the 2025-26 season.
Both teams traded goals within the opening 12 minutes before Wright gave the the lead from the penalty spot with a booming attempt 25 minutes in. Derby equalized before the half and then found the go-ahead five minutes into the final 45, before Coventry turned a new lead over across the final 20 minutes. The scored three goals between the 72nd and 79th minutes of the match, coming from behind to secure all three points.
It was the highest-scoring Championship match of the season so far.

Wright, who featured as a striker for Frank Lampard's side on the day, played 90 minutes on the day, putting forth an impressive showing up top. He registered four total shots, putting two on target, while logging 24 touches across the final third.
Typically a left winger for the , Wright played out of position up top but still looked the part in the contest.
He was a player who was called into Mauricio Pochettino's Gold Cup squad this summer, but had to pull out due to a minor Achilles injury. He featured in their opening match against Trinidad and Tobago before departing the camp.
He'll be looking to return to the team this September.
