Tottenham Hotspur suffered a Champions League last-16 first leg defeat against RB Leipzig on Wednesday, with the German outfit winning the game 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Timo Werner (BBC Sport).
In truth, the away team were good value for their win having enjoyed 56% of possession and taken 16 shots on goal during the 90 minutes (BBC Sport).
One of the main reasons why they didn’t win by a bigger margin was the performance of Hugo Lloris, who was one of few Spurs players to come away from the game with some credit. Indeed, the French international made a total of four saves on the night, three of which came from inside the box (SofaScore).
His vital contribution in keeping the score down was noticed as he was given the Man of the Match award at the end of the game (@btsportfootball).
However, it seems that some Spurs fans disagreed with that decision and instead thought that Giovani Lo Celso deserved the award. In fairness, the Argentine did also put in a good performance, completing four successful dribbles, playing three key passes and taking two shots on target. He also did well defensively, winning six ground duels and two aerial duels, making two interceptions and one clearance (SofaScore).
Loads of Tottenham supporters have taken to Twitter to slam the ‘ridiculous’ decision to give Lloris Man of the Match, with most claiming Lo Celso deserved it more…
