Rangers director of football Mark Allen has stated that he’s “satisfied” with his club’s signings but has said his side will look for deals throughout the window.
What’s the story?
Speaking to the club’s official website, Allen said he will scour the market until it slams shut on September 2.
He stated: “The transfer window closes in the early part of September this year, so we will go right to the wire, and like all things, if we think there is something out there which can add to what we have already got and we think will make us better, my job is to make that case to the board and see where we get to.
“I think it is fair to say we are pretty much done, but you will always be looking to fine-tune and we will take it to the wire before we make that decision.”
The Gers have added Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, George Edmundson, Filip Helander, Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones, Greg Stewart and Jake Hastie to the club this summer, but while Allen is clearly happy with the incoming business, what does his “right to the wire” comment mean for potential exits?
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…
What do the comments mean for outgoings?
One player who could be interested in those comments is Alfredo Morelos. His manager has stated that the striker would only be available for a “really big offer”, while also saying teams will have to make their approaches early, reinforcing that he will not lose his star man with just days left in the window.
This is interesting when compared to Allen’s comments. With the director of football stating he’s happy to go to the bitter end to get deals done one would have to feel he’d be tempted if a big offer were to arrive for Morelos.
The Colombian has been linked with moves away in this window, namely to Newcastle (Don Balon), which led to Gerrard’s comments about his striker. He has also expressed his desire to play in the Premier League in the past.
After scoring 30 times for the Light Blues last season it’s no surprise to see Gerrard trying to scare teams away from the 23 year-old, but with Allen’s apparent enthusiasm to wheel and deal at the deadline, could we see some late movement for the striker?
If that “really big offer” does arrive, it will inject a big sum into Gerrard’s transfer kitty, and Allen would clearly have no qualms about taking that money and reinvesting it in some deadline signings.
