Newcastle United are determined to establish themselves among the elite in English football and could now have taken a step closer to sealing a statement signing, per reports.
Newcastle United ready to strike in the transfer window
The Premier League season isn’t over, and plenty is still to be decided in the hunt for European football. Still, the Magpies already have an eye on adding another layer of star quality to their squad ahead of next campaign.
Eddie Howe has an enviable track record of identifying talent on the market. Following a summer in which PSR posed limitations on scope for incomings last year, he may be given some extra freedom to work his magic this time around.
Wasting no time, Newcastle have flagged Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo as their top target. Thomas Frank is ready to listen if clubs come calling for his star man, though the Bees are set to demand over £60 million for his services.
Defensively, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar are heading towards the twilight of their careers, which has prompted the Magpies to pursue Monaco centre-back Wilfried Singo amid his potential availability for a bargain £15 million fee.
Semih Kilicsoy’s form for Besiktas has put Newcastle on alert, illustrating that a forward may also be on the radar amid Callum Wilson’s contract uncertainty.

Either way, there is plenty of movement expected on Tyneside as the Toon look to continue their upward trajectory under Howe, helped in no small part by PIF’s ambitious vision in the North East. Continuing their aspirations to make Newcastle a force to be reckoned with, they are now set to put forward a formal approach for a talented Premier League star.
Newcastle United set to make formal approach for Harvey Elliott
According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle are preparing a formal approach for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who is also on the radar of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund are rumoured to be in the frame. Still, the Magpies are eager to see if they can tempt Arne Slot to part ways with the England Under-21 international amid his limited minutes at Anfield this term.

Liverpool are open to letting midfielder Elliott depart in the summer for between £40 million and £50 million after a season that has seen the London-born man record four goals and two assists in 25 outings across all competitions.
His long-term future on Merseyside is uncertain, and the Reds are willing to drop their price should no offers be forthcoming. This would give Newcastle a leg up in their search for midfield quality.
Now, their main priority will be fending off competition for his signature, and they may stand a good chance if they can formalise their approach for the ex-Fulham star, who has been labelled a “special talent” by Neil Mellor.
